The Journey
He led the second expedition around the world from 1577 to 1580. Francis Drake led the expedition with John Winter and Thomas Doughty.
The three left Plymouth, England on December 13th 1577 with six ships. They first sailed to Brazil then through the Strait of Magellan. Francis Drake and his crew were given food and water by the native people in Tierra del Fuego. He then sailed near Panama where he hijacked Spanish ships for treasures and food. In North America, Francis claimed the land which he called Nova Albion, though the exact spot was kept a secret. He then sailed across the Pacific Ocean near Indonesia. They then sailed pass the Indian Ocean then past The Cape of Good Hope then back to Plymouth in 1580. When he returned Queen Elizabeth I gave him £10,000. |
